Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ'S)
What is a chiropractor and what can I expect from treatment?
A chiropractor is a primary health care professional focussed on the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders, with an emphasis on treatment through manual adjustment and/or manipulation of the spine and other joints in the body.
Most chiropractors seek to reduce pain and improve the functionality of patients as well as to educate them on how they may account for their own health via exercise, ergonomics and other therapies.
What is an adjustment or manipulation?
A chiropractic adjustment refers to a chiropractor applying a specific thrust to a vertebra or joint that have an abnormal movement pattern or fail to function normally.
Do I need a referral from my physician to see a chiropractor?
Chiropractors are primary care health professionals and, in most cases, do not require a referral to be seen. A comprehensive history and exam is performed on every new patient to determine if chiropractic care is appropriate for them.
If I get hurt at work, do I need to see my physician before seeing a chiropractor?
A doctor of chiropractic may initiate a claim with Work Safe NB. Once a claim is accepted, chiropractic treatments are usually covered and the clinic bills Work Safe NB directly.
Can I see a chiropractor if I am pregnant?
Pregnancy is often accompanied with muscle and joint pain. Chiropractic is a gentle, drug-free option for relief during this period.
Can the elderly benefit from chiropractic care?
Chiropractic is designed to eliminate acute and chronic pain, increase flexibility, improve mobility and balance, improve general health and increase the overall quality of one’s life. It is therefore an important tool in the maturing and elderly adult population due the dramatic changes that occur in the spine and joints as we age. Modern chiropractic employs non-invasive and gentle adjusting techniques and modalities to safely introduce flexibility and mobility to the spine. This increases mobility and along with the appropriate stretches and exercise, can improve strength, posture, balance and minimize degeneration and pain.
Do I see a chiropractor following a sport injury?
Chiropractors are musculoskeletal experts and are well trained to assess and determine the proper course of treatment following most sport injuries. Our clinic utilises many treatment modalities such as Laser Therapy, which have been proven to accelerate healing and return the athletes to their sports in a shorter period. Many professional and elite athletes have chiropractors as an integral part of their health care team.
Do insurance providers usually cover chiropractic treatment?
Most insurance providers cover chiropractic care. We suggest that patients verify with their individual plan to confirm coverage.
Does your clinic direct bill insurance providers?
The Riverview Chiropractic Clinic is able to direct bill Medavie Blue Cross. The clinic direct bills and provides all documentation for Work Safe NB claims, veterans and RCMP. We are also able to direct bill in most cases of motor vehicle accidents.
